James was born on 25/10/2002 and on 2/11/2002 while James was still in ICU (where he spent 8 weeks) Mike Sanderson and I ran the Soweto marathon, much of the time on the run we talked about James' future, and how one day he would run with me. Little did I know then that James would be so badly handicapped that he would never walk and talk; let alone run a marthon.

As you know, James passed away in his sleep on 30 April 2008, we asked that no flowers be sent at the time, and now ask that you sponsor Mike Sanderson and I as we run in memory of James at the New York City marathon on 2/11/2008. All proceeds will go to Whizz Kids, an organisation that helps provide mobility and sporting opportunities to disabled children (like James).

As we said at James' funeral he taught us to appreciate the "small things in life". One of those "small things" is simply the ability to use your body, each marathon I have run since James was born I have remembered how fortunate I am to be able to run.
