A Bright light for Albania
‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’ John 1:5 (ESV)
ALBANIA – A European country where religion was officially banned until 1990 now has its first inter-confessional translation of the New Testament! For 50 years people were living in poverty, there were no churches, ministers or pastors, and the Bible was a forbidden book.
Things have been slowly changing and, although it is still a desperately poor place, the light of the Gospel is beginning to burn more brightly. The brightest ray of light is the newly launched translation of the New Testament.
A Bible Society team from Northern Ireland visited Albania during the week of the launch and returned home with a conviction that we must do all we can to make sure the NT reaches the people.
The Bible Society in Northern Ireland has committed to partnering with the Albanian Bible Society in the following projects:
- New Testaments for each theological student in the country
- New Testament on CD for the illiterate, visually impaired etc.
- A Bible Exhibition for High School students
- Subsidised price of New Testaments for the poor.
Remember, people will remain in darkness until a light shines! YOU CAN HELP spread the light of the Gospel in Albania. Please give what you can, your gift will change lives.
Thank you!
