Katherine Payne and Josh Turnbull are two English volunteers who are working with LUYDEFO (a local NGO connected to Que Rico and the district of Wakiso). Among other projects they are providing funds and labour to the Parish of Banda in the Wakiso district. They are working with the local women’s and youth groups to provide for needs and development that will benefit the entire village. Among other needs such as skills training and children’s activities, they have identified a need for the village’s source of water – a stagnant spring – to be improved to provide sustainably clean water for a large population. This cannot be funded entirely by Katherine and Josh and especially not by the community or Luydefo, whose budgets are stretched to their limits already. After meeting with WATERAID and Wakiso District Water Offices it was decided that a bore hole would be the most sustainable option in providing a long term clean water supply to the people of Banda. This is estimated to cost 16,000,000 UGX (roughly £4,570). Donating whatever you can afford will make the people of Banda eternally grateful.
