Why your donation matters

Not many of us can imagine the daily challenges of living in poverty in the UK for a child. Buttle UK is there to relieve the most immediate and difficult problems families face through our targeted, small grant programme. This provides what are often very basic things that most of us take for granted, and perhaps assume that everyone in the UK can afford, such as adequate clothes, particularly shoes and winter coats, three meals a day or a bed.

Last year alone Buttle UK touched the lives of nearly 20,000 vulnerable children and young people.

Case study: donations in action

Hi I’m Chloe,

My sister and me used to sleep on the floorboards in sleeping bags, we were cold and really uncomfortable. We had to throw our old mattresses away because they were full of bed bugs. Every morning we were covered with sore itchy bites and we couldn’t get to sleep at night because we scared of the insects.

I was always late for school because I couldn’t wake up properly and felt tired in the mornings. I was told off all the time for being late, this made me worry about school and I couldn’t listen to the lessons. My teacher noticed I was sleeping in class and spoke to me about it. I didn’t want to talk to her but she said she could help and it made me cry.

After that, a social worker visited Mum and said she could ask for newbunk beds from a charity called Buttle UK. I start secondary school soon and hope I can learn better now I sleep in a proper bed.
