Story
My parents bought me Buzz, a mini dwarf rabbit and I loved him. He unfortunately died after two weeks of a heart attack. I got two more rabbits, a male and a female. Fudge also died because of a diarrhea, which I could not cure. Sarah, my cousin, wanted a rabbit for Chanukah. We went to buy her Scofield and at the shop, we saw three cute mini dwarf rabbits that were adorable and bought them. That is when I started to get more closely interested in rabbits and got the idea of creating a rabbit farm. The creation of a Junior Association "Buzz Bunny" will let me create a rabbit farm as well as performing a good deed by donating all of the profits made to an orphanage in Malawi, called Open Arms.
Why Open Arms? The aids virus continues to spread around in Southern Africa. This combined with poverty, a high infant mortality rate and a weak quality of health and education. The result is a life expectancy of thirty-six years old. Malawi is the country with the highest percentage of orphans (officially estimated at 850,000). Open Arms offers a vital service for all of the babies born of a mother who died soon after or while she gave birth. That is why I have decided that all of my profits will go to Open Arms.
Over there, a rabbit sold is approximately five chickens ready to lay.
Over there, a rabbit sold is approximately five mosquito nets.
Over there, a rabbit sold is approximately two bags of nutritional food.
Over there, a rabbit sold is approximately medications for one child, for one year.
And the list is long...
Every end of month, I will send the money to Open Arms in Malawi, using the official donation form provided by the Open Arms. Buzz Bunny will be controlled by the French National Network of the Junior Associations.
My rabbits are in a room at a correct temperature. It used to be a wine cave, which we entirely refurbished. The rabbits will be able to run around on the floor or rest in their hutch. The males are separated from the females and the females will have a separate hutch to rest with their babies while they are being sold. The residence's gardener, Adrien, is ready to help me freely if I need any advice. He has previously owned a professional rabbit farm. There is also a very good veterinary in St Nom la Breteche, Dr. Israel.
I will use ten percent of the total sales to repair and keep in good shape my farm. I think that I will sell the babies for twenty five euros each and I hope that I will be able to sell around five to ten rabbits a month. I will not sell the rabbits until I am sure that they are healthy.
