Woodland Trust- Penguin Walk · 6 June 2008 ·

The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity who creates, protects and cares for woodland across the UK. We are working hard to create a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. But we can't do this alone. We can't achieve our vision without you.

Story

Many thanks for sponsoring us in our wild endeavour.

So, who are we and what exactly are we doing?

WHO: 'Call of the Wild', aka C.O.W., is a group started by p. BIRCH that is open to all at Penguin with 'wild'  or 'natural' surnames. We meet monthly for lunch to discuss how we can infuse the company with wildness. This is our first charity venture.

WHAT: On the 6th June. along with over 300 other Penguinites, we will be walking 10 miles in aid of the Woodland Trust, specifically to support their 'giving trees to schoolchildren' scheme.

'Since 2004 they have been offering primary schools and youth groups free packs containing saplings for the children to plant in their grounds and local areas, plus a range of educational resources.Over 30,000 packs have now been sent out containing 900,000 trees, involving 900,000 children. During 2008 we plan to send out a further 10,000 packs.'
