On 23 July 2010, Ozzy Hicks, Al Meadows and Dan Wilkinson all from RAF Lyneham plan to cross on foot, in ONE go. Make no mistake, this is a huge undertaking: 84 miles in total on and off road, AND over notorious terrain! A combination of running and walking, to burn around 20,000 calories each, and on top of that, carrying their back-pacs! This challenge has been chosen BECAUSE it is very difficult in order to inspire their friends, families and colleagues to help them raise money towards such an amazing organisation. Neither Ozzy, Al or Dan have ever undertaken anything like this before and really need your support. Calm is a independent local charity, caring for the needs of families within the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust, who have and had children or young persons dealing with Cancer or Leukaemia. Because CALM is run by the families of children who have been diagnosed with cancer, all of its members have personal experience of the illness, and the strains cancer can put on family life.
The volunteers at CALM use their time and personal experience to help others in times of need. They provide much needed emotional and financial support, in the form of grants for expenses and equipment, facilities, day trips and social activities for sufferers. As well as this, CALM is also dedicated to funding childhood cancer research to help the fight the battle against cancer.
