Story

Being in hospital is a difficult time for our young patients and their families and we do all we can to make the environment as warm and welcoming as possible.

We want to help make things a little easier for them by enhancing paediatric in-patient, surgical and PAU facilities at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.

To do this we really need help and support from the communities we serve.

Phase two of our three phase project urgently requires your help! Please see details below:

Phase 2 Improved garden space

The garden area is a valuable, much loved and well utilized out door resource that provides patients with the opportunity to play in the fresh air, away from the clinical environment.

We wish to provide a safe, vibrant and engaging area suitable for all of our young patients and their families (including siblings). Plans include the replacement of the cushioned safety flooring so that it is safe in wet and dry conditions, an undercover chill out area for young people (which they will be able to use throughout the year), and an outdoor area for parents where they can chat and provide peer support to each through their shared experiences of having a sick child.

We would also like to provide a sensory garden experience that has appropriate plants and shrubs that will provide an enjoyable sensory experience for all patients, particularly those that have additional needs or sensory issues.

Any donation you can help us with would be gratefully received. Please help us to provide a safe vibrant garden space for our young patients and their families.

We are very delighted to confirm that The Steve Bull Foundation and The Goodyear Workers Benevolent Fund have agreed to fund phases 1 and 2. To find out more, please see below:

Phase 1 Improve our offer of play equipment

Feedback from patients and their families highlighted that our activities were mainly for younger children. Following further consultation, we produced a wish list of items and appealed for help to enhance our offer of play equipment to babies, children and young people.

We are delighted to announce that The Steve Bull Foundation has agreed to support us by purchasing everything on our wish list. We are very grateful to Steve, Kirsty and their supporters for their ongoing support.

Phase 3 Improvements to the sensory room

We provide the very best for our patients and their families ensure that the space is fully inclusive for all of our patients diverse needs. We recognised that the sensory room could be enhanced greatly and consulted with parents for their ideas. Following their feedback, a detailed plan has been produced.

We are delighted to announce that the Goodyears Workers Benevolent Fund has agreed to support us by funding all of the sensory equipment we require within the room. We are very grateful to each and every one of their members and the lasting legacy they will leave to the people of Wolverhampton and the Black Country.

About the charity
