Story
Therapeutic horse riding or 'Hippotherapy' is a complementary but integral component of the Physiotherapy service at Chailey Heritage Foundation. Hippotherapy uses the movement of the horse as part of a physiotherapy treatment strategy to improve joint mobility, balance, muscle tone and head and trunk control, particularly core stability. It helps with motor skills and coordination, postural control and physical, cognitive and behavioural functions, as well as communication skills, through telling the horse to stop and go. The service, supported by a Hippotherapist, is provided all year round during term-time, as part of our pupils' School timetable. We also run a Riding Club after School. However, we do not receive any statutory funding for this provision and must raise in the region of £50,000 each year to be able to provide this facility for our young people.
