Story
Over the years, The Enderby Band has always been found performing in the local community, however a permanent bandroom has never been found. Various rooms and halls around the village of Enderby have been used to rehearse but as the band expanded to the current multi-band Enderby Band Organisation (EBO) the need for a permanent home became apparent.
In 2002 EBO was fortunate to receive a donated Portakabin, and with support from Blaby District Council, the building was sited in the nearby village of Huncote. However, the building was only just big enough for EBO at the time, and in the intervening years we have grown to 7 bands, accommodating both brass and wind. The bandroom facilitates rehearsals, but storage space for the Organisation's musical instruments and music library is extremely tight. Subsequently, two of the EBO’s bands have to rehearse at the Enderby Village Institute and use the Institute’s available storage to house equipment that cannot be stored at the bandroom. This arrangement is unsatisfactory and as with any temporary building, the Portakabin is nearing the end of its serviceable life and recognising this the EBO has undertaken the task of finding a new long-term home.
Due to planning restrictions we are unable to put a larger building on the current site in Huncote so are searching the area of Enderby for land for our new home. We are confident that a suitable location can be found and need your support with funding to finance the project.
As well as providing the headquarters for the EBO, the vision for the building is a state-of-the-at facility for the wider community of Enderby and its surrounding villages. We intend to have sufficient space to be used by other groups even when a musical group is in a rehearsal. EBO believes that maintaining and reinforcing its strong connections to the local community are vital, and this project will only be considered a success if the new building serves to extend and improve those links.
