"Community dance is a uniquely British success story, but one that we have scarcely started to record.
The Museum of Us proposes to capture the personal stories, key moments and inspirational practice that make up that story, so that this can become a vital resource for practitioners, for the wider dance sector and for future dance research. Please support it."
Chris Thomson, former Director of Creative Teaching and Learning at The PlaceWith your support we will secure, collate and archive this unique part of dance history in the UK for future generations and create an accessible online resource for us all to use.
As well as archiving and collating our collective history we intend the archive to be a 'living' collection of practices that will inspire and can be studied, but also be the place where we leave practices as we create them.
What our supporters have said about The Museum of Us and the fundraising campaign:
Cecilia MacFarlane (Independent dance artist): "We know deeply the importance of dance in our communities, this will hopefully always be so if we can store the evidence of this work for future dancers to refer to and be inspired by, we can only move on with this precious dance of ours."
Helen Angove (Executive Board Dance HE): "this is a wonderful initiative."
