Story
The Blue Light project was set up by Tyneside and Northumberland Mind to provide support and mental health training for the emergency services in our area.
We know that one in four people in the UK will experience a mental health problem in any given year. But independent research shows that the estimated quarter of a million people who work and volunteer in the emergency services are even more at risk of experiencing a mental health problem than the general population, but are less likely to get support.
Since the Blue Light programme was started it has gone from strength to strength with 100s of police, fire, ambulance and airsea rescue employees and volunteers receiving mental health training and support. We now even have our own support groups and Blue Light Choir that recently performed at the Sage, Gateshead to raise awareness and funding for our programme.
We are raising awareness of mental health in the emergency services as well as raising money to fund mental health services throughout Tyneside and Northumberland.
Tyneside and Northumberland Mind provide mental health services throughout our region, providing support for people with mental ill health.
