Dave C and Bruce B are embarking on the Cannonball Run Europe 2007 on 1st-6th July 2007.  For those unfamiliar with the event, its a high-mileage endurance rally across Europe. More details (or entry forms if you care to join us - let the organisers know we recommended you - they'll donate some of your entrance fee to our charity!) here: http://www.cannonballruneurope.co.uk/uk/index.htm

We're hoping that it really will be the drive of our lives! While reflecting on our anticipation of the event, we considered how fortunate we were to be entering - and how unfortunate others in the world are. We wondered what we could do to address the balance.

To that end, we're encouraging you (and everyone you know with an e-mail address and some spare cash!) to dig deep and give generously to our chosen charity: Action for Brazil's Children Trust.

Chief Executive of ABC Trust, Mr. Andrew Webb, has recently provided more specific details regarding the project that your contribution will help funding.

"Crescer e Vivir – “To Grow and Live” - uses a circus-arts approach to their work in combination with a wide range of other artistic and cultural activities – including dance, capoeira, music, theatre and literature. Their aims most broadly stated are to improve the life conditions of children and young people at risk and the communities in which they live. The practical results of their work are there for all to see.

Crescer e Vivir was formed out of a Samba school in 2000 when they marked the 10 anniversary of ’s adoption of a wide ranging set of laws and provisions to protect and promote children’s rights. While practically everyone in will say that they have one of the best legislative frameworks and statement of principles in the world, they also recognise there is a big gap between these and what is actually happening on the streets and in communities across .

Crescer e Vivir started their work in Sao Goncalo area of Rio de Janeiro and based themselves in the local state school which drew pupils from an area of the city which experiences acute poverty and high rates of violence and unemployment. Beyond the many stories of how Crescer e Vivir has changed individual lives perhaps the most dramatic indicator of their success, is that at the beginning of their work there were 200 regular pupils at the school. After 3 years the school had filled to capacity with 1200 pupils enrolled and there is now a waiting list for families keen to have their children benefiting from not only the state provision of basic education but especially the expanded programme of extra-curricular activities and social support provided by Crescer e Vivir."

More information on this worthwhile project is available here:

As if any further incentive were needed, Dave and Bruce are personally offering a Case of Champagne to the person who donates the highest amount to the charity! (we're limiting this offer to folks from the UK and Ireland, as shipping costs would otherwise kill us!) Multiple donations on this site are acceptable - we'll add up the sum total for the purposes of deciding where the prize goes!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Action For Brazil's Children Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now! And encourage everyone you know to give something too!

Many thanks for your support.

For those who are interested, we're also hosting a website (thanks Mairead!) at http://www.daveandbruce.com

This site hosts some information about our team, photos of the car, and during the event, will have live blogs, photos and videos posted as we travel throughout Europe !!!
