Dear Friends,
We are still getting cheques and our thank to Christopher Taylor for his very kind support.
I must add a huge thankyou to all who supported the Merrythought open day and bid so generously on the auction. The amount raised was £425 and this has been added to the total. and we have just recieved a cheque from J.A.Parkes. many thanks.
WE made it in one piece, but please feel free to donate. Ataxia will appriciate as much help as possible. Many thanks to all who have donated so far.
As you may be aware Oliver Holmes and I are off on a wild adventure. Starting in Peking at the end of May in a bright red 1919, 14.5 litre monster, (La France) and hopefully getting through the Gobi Desert and Siberia and over 7 very large rivers, over very high mountains and not many roads.(with no tarmac for over 5,000 miles), we hope to reach Paris in one piece (with a 1919 car, colour by then unimportant) at the end of June.
Some of you may be wondering why we need sponsorship, simply put, 3 of my nephews and nieces have been diagnosed with Freidreich's Ataxia. A rare genetic disorder that causes progessive damage to the nervous system. It starts in childhood and usually balance and co-ordination are the first to be affected, walking and fine motor skills such as writing and eating become difficult. Curviture of the spine and heart problems are also common. It progresses at variable speeds, but most patients are reduced to a wheelchair during their teens, and later become completely incapacitated. Most die in early adulthood. Friedreich's Ataxia only affects about 1500 people in the UK and as a result there is not much money being put into research. A cure could be on the horizon, but without enough funds, researchers are unable to run trials or get any closer to changing the lives of those affected.
In short, dig deep. I hope to raise £6,000 on this site and a further £20,000 through business sponsorship, so if any of you big players have any contacts wanting photo ops in China/Russia or in Paris or wish to put your company logo on the car. please contact me. please view our site at www.peking-paris.co.uk
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Ataxia UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.
