The 20th Anniversary Rhino Charge is confirmed to take place on 1st June 2008 and the Rhino Ark Committee wishes to assure everyone that the venue is in an area where no post election security issues have occurred.
We as fund raisers have been urged to maintain the fund raising momentum as the funds are needed as much as ever given the recent circumstances. Raising money this year will challenge us all but we hope we can help you to understand that Rhino Ark is still an important Kenyan charity and the funds raised directly and indirectly benefit Kenyans.
Rhino Ark still enjoys a success record second to none for utilizing its funds to solve the core issues of:
• Poverty eradication.
• Creating jobs and better incomes.
• Conserving vital national water catchments, indigenous forest, precious flora and fauna.
The funds we raise as individual teams and as a whole:
• Ensure fence build completion within twelve months.
• Secure a lasting management and maintenance policy for the Aberdare Fence and its ecosystem.
The Aberdare’s are still the source of 5 of Kenya’s 7 largest rivers and the sole water provider for over 5 million people. These rivers provide hydro-electric power and water for irrigation of Kenya’s main exports. The fence was erected to conserve one of Kenya’s finest indigenous forests and its total habitat. Left unchecked charcoal burning, grazing and removal of hard-woods will continue to destroy the Aberdares and the integrity of the water shed.
The Aberdares are home to many of Africa’s most threatened wildlife species such as the bongo, black rhino, wild dog, giant bush hog and the bongo, endemic to Africa. These habitats and animals not only provide a needed tourist income for Kenya, but also ensure natures’ balance is maintained. A healthy ecosystem will continue to give water, energy and food back to Kenyans for generations to come.
