Race day update...

I wasn't feeling fully fit on race day so decided to give up the notion of going really fast and instead do a bit more PR for Fairtrade. I did the whole 10k run carrying a 4ft inflatable banana. I made it home in a time of 53m33s. This is my best time for a 10k carrying an inflatable banana but I do think I could go quicker in this event - race ettiquette on the day was very poor with nobody recognising the 'overtaking on the left' rule.

Good fun though - thanks for the sponsorship.

Carl

As you know, I'm a big believer in Fairtrade. Although I skimp and save on things throughout my life I always like to choose Fairtrade when I can because I believe that people deserve a fair wage for their work and I have come to believe that the Fairtrade system is a way to achieve that.

I was thrilled to get a place to run for them. I don't have a job at the moment so perhaps the fact that I am in the Fairtrade Running Team makes me a professional runner! :-)

I was planning to do some proper 10k training programme and go for a new 'personal best' time but have had quite bad asthma for the last 8 weeks so am not going to smash my 43:27 record (Ely 10k 2007). Still, I'm sure I can get myself around a 10k.

Please sponsor me if you like.

Carl

Text from the Fairtrade Foundation...

Two billion people – a third of humanity – survive on less than $2 a day.  Unfair trade rules is one of the things that keep them in poverty, alongside global challenges of food shortages, climate change and declining aid from richer countries.  Fairtrade is a passionate movement for social change, tackling poverty and injustice through creating fairer conditions for poor and marginalised farmers to sell their produce under fair and ethical terms.  Fairtrade also helps farmers to improve their communities, by providing a ‘Premium’ which they can use to invest in local development projects such as schools, hospitals and wells.  In this way, Fairtrade is helping over 7 million people achieve fairer and more sustainable futures.  You can find out more about the Fairtrade Foundation by visiting their website, here.
