The Bethany Family project
CHILDREN’S HOME
Magu District, Mwanza Region, Tanzania. East Africa
On 25th April 2008 I made a trip to the Bethany Family orphanage in Tanzania, East Africa. I volunteered for 2 weeks as an English and IT skills teacher.
There are 136 children orphaned and abandoned at the project all with their own heartbreaking story for being there. These children have suffered unimaginable sadness and loss but they are some of the happiest children I have ever come across. I never once heard them complaining about their misfortune and you very rarely heard a child cry. It really is an extraordinary place to behold.
HIV and AIDS are a major problem in Tanzania and infection rates average about 8%. Medication that might keep the disease under control is available but these drugs are too expensive for the majority of Tanzanians. The children infected with this deadly disease carry on with every day life like the other children. Treatment is available however the children still have to be transported to the nearest hospital which can be costly.
If you wish to know more about the project and their work please visit the website at www.bethanyfamily.net where you can sponsor a child for as little as £5 a month.
Below is some information on the costs of running such a project:
