The Wincanton Driver of the Year Competition is supporting Transaid.
At this event, held on 10th July 2008 Wincanton will be offering the opportunity for people to driver a Wincanton truck, have a go on an F1 Simulator or try out the go-karts. We are asking people for a voluntary donation of £5 for each activity. This contribution will go to Transaid and towards vital current projects which help share best practice in Africa and reduce the number of fatalities on the roads.

There is a huge demand for and severe shortage of trained HGV drivers in Southern Africa. Working closely with the government of Zambia and representatives from the transport operators associations, Transaid are setting set up a quality assured training scheme for HGV drivers. The project will also establish a scheme for training trainers, and monitor the output of the training providers. The key deliverables are expected to be improved standards of driving leading to less road related death and injury, and improved standards of efficiency and service delivery in Zambia.
