Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June 2004 I had a motorcycle accident which left me with severe injuries to my right knee and back. Over the next 10 years I went from mobilising with crutches to having to use a wheelchair most of time. I joined Benenden in 2006 and through my membership was able to have an MRI. I was advised me that I needed a knee replacement which I had at Benenden Hospital in November 2014.
Since that day my life changed and I am now able to walk independently with no pain in my knee, enabling me to have a much better quality of life. I cannot thank my surgeon, Mr Reddy, and the staff at Benenden Hospital enough for the care I received.
Benenden Hospital is also very close to my heart as my Grandad; James Cecil Luckhurst, was the Benenden Hospital barber for over 50 years. I have even had the pleasure of seeing the display of his memorabilia in the Benenden Hospital museum. Also my Nan was a patient at Benenden.
Last year I was introduced to the Rotary Club of the Weald of Kent, North Downs Cancer Research sponsored walk on the downs near Harrietsham and completed the 9 mile walk. This year I decided to set myself a challenge and walk all 3 tracks (total of 18 miles/28.9km) and donate 50% of my sponsorship to Benenden Charitable Trust, as a thank you for being a huge part in changing my life.
