Christians Against Poverty (CAP) was set up in 1996 by John Kirkby who wanted to help people to get out of debt, armed with just £10 he set up the first centre in and now there is 125 centre's in the with 7 centre's in . I am involved with the centre in Westerhailes helping to raise extra funds for our new centre.

When someone finds themselves in debt all the need to do is to call our freephone number (0800 328 0006) and then the team in will then pass their details on to the nearest centre and a meeting will be arranged. The centre manager will arrange a visit and bring along a support worker and gather all the information and paper work that is relevant to the debt and it is then sent to Head Office where the magic of a budget comes from. The client then pays money into an account that CAP set up and they then take over paying off the debt for the client, the client then has money that is set out for different household things and leisure.

The support worker then sets out to give the client all the support that they need and can arrange to meet up and chat about how they are feeling, and if they have any problems then they can talk to the support worker and they can work through any problems.

 

 

I was the first CAP client to become debt free in Edinburgh so this is why I'm doing this 320m Zip Slide from Marsden Grotto to the beach to show my appreciation of how much CAP have helped me, and by helping out  with the PR & Fundraising in the Westerhailes CAP Centre.
