The healing power of play
Hi! As you might know, I've signed up to run my very first half marathon in London's Royal Parks on October 11th.
Training is under way and with our British summer I'm no longer a fair-weathered runner! What keeps me going is the great cause of Radio Lollipop - the charity I'm raising money for.
For some time I volunteered weekly at Radio Lollipop - at Evelina and Great Ormand Street hospitals. It's all about playing with and entertaining children in hospital and helping putting a smile on their face. While they can´t say "no" to treatment, they can and do say YES to Radio Lollipop - requesting favourite songs, doing arts and crafts, winning prizes, and hearing themselves speaking on the radio! This gives them a sense of fun or normality in the hospital day which can be strange, different and often scary.
One in four children are admitted to a hospital before reaching age 14. Though some patients are short-stay, many have a recurring need for care and return repeatedly to hospital. Some who are terminally ill spend much of their short lives in hospital.
So, if you believe in the healing power of play - PLEASE SPONSOR ME!
As a non-profit organisation and registered charity, Radio Lollipop needs funds to continue to provide its unique service - which really does make a difference to a child's hospital stay.
Please feel free to donate any amount and hope for sunshine and lollipops on the day ;)
Thank you
Carrie x
