My story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I must first say I am totally overwhelmed by the support I have already had. So much so that I have upped my target again - it was £3500. Thank you one and all.

You may ask yourself why on earth would she want to do that? Has she gone completely mad?

Well this is the story.

On my way to work on September 19th 2011 I took the dogs for a quick walk. As I came through the gate into the field I was aware of bees buzzing around me. But they weren't happy, fluffy bees they were agressive, angry, hungry bees and I had clearly pissed them off! I panicked and ran up the field to the house knowing that I had been stung. As I ran into the kitchen, taking all my clothes off convinced there were bees all over me, I felt a bit odd and had to lie down. That is the last thing I remember before waking up in A&E 7 hours later wired up to all sorts of machines like an episode of casualty.

It was very lucky for me that my mother was in the house. She called 999 and the air ambulance arrived about half an hour after I had passed out on the kitchen floor. They saved my life. I had no idea that I was severely allergic to bee stings. I was unconscious within 10 minutes of being stung.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance is an essential service for those of us who live out in the sticks, or on the edge of the world, not only as a very quick way to get to the hospital, but as a way of getting the doctors out to us so that they can treat us asap. The organisation is run entirely by donations and needs to raise £4 million a year. They need us today, remember we may need them tomorrow.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate. I will raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and sponsor me now. I really am going to do the Norfolk Superhero Challenge 2012. I won't be looking for an impressive time, but I will get round. (I am also on the committee of the Superhero Challenge so I have seen how tough it can be!)

Swim a mile in the creek from the beach to the village, Kayak 4 miles around the creeks, Cycle 45 miles around North Norfolk and then Run 8 miles along the beach of which the last is across the marsh. Phew!

Luckily I will have my fantastic team mate Sez Hughes to keep me going. I think our team name will be "...and we can ski." And I am training with my lovely and very determined friend Sarah Green under the hard task master personal trainer Rachel Symington, a true Norfolk Superhero herself.

As the East Anglian Air Ambulance says "We need you today. You may need us tomorrow." It is worth remembering that.

Love from Cath xxx

PS Or you can also drop into Big Blue Sky in Wells-next-the-Sea and make your donation personally if you would like to. I'll even make you a cup of tea!

East Anglian Air Ambulance

Charity Registration No. 1083876

The East Anglian Air Ambulance now runs two fully medically equipped helicopters (code-named Anglia One and Anglia Two) serving the people of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Between the two helicopters they are able to provide a life-saving resource, reaching patients quickly and if required, transporting them to the most suitable hospital (rather than the nearest) within minutes. On-going public support is essential to enable us to continue offering this vital service and we are very grateful for your kind donation.
