We did it!! All of team Caversham Casuals completed the ride despite Chris waking up on Sunday morning and thinking his legs had stopped working! As it turned out, he found his second wind after a huge breakfast! The hills were MUCH harder than we had trained on but we struggled up them all. Take a look at photos for proof! We were hampered by technical problems on the second day which delayed us to the extent that 3 of us had to walk over the finish line with Simon's bike on it's last legs (or tyres more to the point.) Thanks so much for your sponsorship!
Until we signed up to this charity ride, we didn't know that the RNLI is entirely funded by charitable donations which frankly seems ridiculous considering what they do!
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales.
So, we're cycling the C2C in July to help raise money for them. The ride is 140 miles long and we'll do it over the 17th and 18th July. Yes it's across the narrowest bit of England but it's pretty hilly! We start in the Lake District, cross the Pennines and end up in Sunderland so we will have plenty of climbs to contend with.
We've been training for a couple of months and already 50% of the team has got injuries so it's been challenging!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Any donation to the RNLI will be much appreciated.....
Thanks from Rachael, Chris, Simon and John.
