My story

The 2008 Trans Germany Bike Race with Saddle Safari
"Two Buckinghamshire cyclists have entered the challenge of their lives" a line that we've all heard before as everyone gets on their bike to raise money for charity these days.  However, this challenge is not just against themselves and the elements but against the best cyclists in the world

A team of two from High Wycombe CC, Buckinghamshire - Paul Morrissey, 45 and Neil Wragg, 37,  are training through the snow, hail and sleet to in order to try to beat the best teams from across the world in the 2008 Trans Germany Mountain Bike RaceCompetitors will be from far afield as South Africa, South America and all across Europe including the German & Canadian National Champions.

The 2008 Trans Germany Mountain Bike race is a gruelling 850 kilometre race starting on the 1st June 2008 from the German border with Luxembourg in the West all the way across the Bavarian Mountain range to Germany's Czech border in the former East Germany.  The race takes 8 days to complete and traverses over 18,000 metres (55,774 feet) of climbing.  That's twice the height of Everest (29,029 feet).  The event is televised for Eurosport and shown daily on German national television.  We will also be producing print articles for national media and a film of our progress during the 8 day race to be made available on DVD and the web.

To add to this challenge they are using the race to raise money and awareness for the charity the Child Bereavement Charity.  "It's a charity that is so important helping children to get through the hardest time of their life, a loss of a parent or sibling.  The charity also provide support for parents who lose a child and really help people to keep going through this tough, emotional time."

We have an entertaining blog site at www.thesprocket.co.uk/blog with updates on our training.

Every day, 11 children in the UK under the age of 15 die as a result of illness or accident.
Every year, around 20,000 children and young people under 18 experience the death of a parent.
Every year, one baby in a hundred dies before, at or soon after birth – that is 18 babies a day.
The Child Bereavement Charity (CBC), founded in 1994, provides specialised information, support and training to all those affected when a baby or child dies, or when a child is bereaved.
