100 miles for 100 years · 16 June 2009

The AHOY work with disadvantaged children, young vulnerable people and those with disabilities. They offer them the opportunity to learn new skills along with the AHOY running courses and programmes to train them to gain qualifications and life skills needed for employment.

Story

Dudley Curtis and Alex Brown cycled 100 miles on the 15th of August to mark the centenary of the PLA and to raise money for the AHOY centre.  Despite blazing heat and at time a 20 knot headwind we managed to maintain an average speed of 16mph and finished in a little over 6 hours.

Based in Deptford, SE London, the Centre is open to everyone and is a place where you can have the opportunity to enjoy the experience of sailing and boating activities on the Thames in the heart of London.  We are aiming to jointly raise £1000 so that the AHOY centre can buy 40 new life jackets which are suitable for people with disabilities.  The ones AHOY currently have require the participants to pull them over their head when putting on, however due to mobility and special requirements this can be a very difficult task for many.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The AHOY Centre gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

There is still time to sponsor us.
