Nordoff and Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity, with a unique approach shaped by more than 60 years of practice. Through the power of music, it breaks through the barriers caused by life-limiting illness, disability and social isolation. The charity does this through providing music therapy to people across the UK, whilst also training the music therapists of the future and funding research to measure and improve the impact of its work.

Story

The long awaited MA Music Theatre Singathon has now happened!

Between 10am and 10pm on Saturday 21st June, twenty singers, four pianists and several friendly refreshment ladies worked tirelessly to entertain the people of Covent Garden, many of whom travelled miles to witness the magic that was occurring inside the Swiss Church, Endell Street. We promised everyone an exciting day and thankfully our guests were not dissappointed.

Highlights included...

David Sandham fearlessly kicking off the Singathon at 10am
Joseph Elliot and friends singing For Good from Wicked
Freia Canals singing Someone Like You from Jekyll and Hyde
Natalie and Maggie duetting on Practically Perfect from Mary Poppins
Becca and Neil showcasing the hilarious Therapy from Tick Tick Boom
Laura and Michael making hearts melt with Cold Enough To Snow
Lauren singing a traditional Irish song acapella
Hilary taking to the piano and performing Norah Jones
Candy Ma being Candy Ma and singing many wonderful songs
Riku and Maggie kissing on the lips at the end of All I Ask of You
Nicola and Emily treating us to a My Fair Lady medley
Michelle and Philipe singing So In Love from Kiss Me Kate
Kylie and Dewi entertaining with songs from Evita and Thoroughly Modern Millie
Alanna singing Redemption Song acapella and many a Carole King number
Hear Me Now! showcasing songs that are soon to be seen on BBC1

AND - last but not least - the ensemble performances of Il Est Bel Et Bon, Ave Verum, Rhythm of Life, Peter Go Ring 'Dem Bells and Shadowlands, that concluded the concert.

We timed it to end at exactly 10 o' clock (not a moment before) and there were tears of joy and sadness at the end of the programme. Joy, because we'd all had a great day and heaps of fun;  sadness because the Singathon signals the end of our time performing together as a 20-strong ensemble. And we already miss each other, Paul Barker and the wonderful MA MT course very much.

If you were unable to share in the Singathon experience but you have enjoyed our work over the year, please do sponsor us now via this secure fundrasing page. All money raised offline has gone direct to the Swiss Church; money raised on-line  goes direct to Nordoff Robins Music therapy; a wonderful charity that helps bring music into the lives of others who have yet to experience its life-changing power. Please give generously to this worthy cause, and thanks for visiting our site.

Many thanks,
Team Singathon!
