BUPA Great North Run 2006 · 1 October 2006 ·

Centrepoint is the UK’s leading youth homeless charity. Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 16-25 year olds into a home and a job every year. Our award-winning helpline provides support to vulnerable young people across the country. We campaign to end youth homelessness by 2037.

Story

*UPDATE - 2/10/06*

Thanks to everyone who supported us, we really appreciate it. Claire & James completed the run in 2.45 hours and Carl & Bob crossed the line after exactly four hours! We are tired and aching but none of us can stop smiling!!! We are so proud of ourselves and each other and are all signing up for next year. We've got the running bug - bring on 2007!!!!

PS/ Good Luck to Claire who has a week long outward bound course to deal with from today! The rest of us will go and have a nice sit down now..... ;-)

We are Claire (21), James (20) and Carl (18) and have all been homeless but now live in Centrepoint Derwentside. Bob who's a Support & Development Worker there is running too.  Carl and Bob will be linked for the run, as Carl is completely blind. Running the race will be a huge challenge for all 4 of us, as we've not run before but we're training hard and determined to complete it!

We are raising money for Centrepoint because as Carl points out "It's the only thing worth supporting - apart from Sunderland FC!" but also because our team is living proof of the difference Centrepoint can make to people's lives and we want to make sure they can help as many other young people as possible.

Centrepoint provides vulnerable young people with safe accomodation, education, help with employment, counselling, specialist support and lifeskills such as cooking and budgeting. It's a really friendly place to live and has inspired us all, Claire even wants to get a job in youth work once she's finished her degree (not long to go!). We want to raise as much as possible towards Centrepoint's work and are holding lots of BBQ's and Quiz's this summer, but it'd be great if you could sponsor us online too.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Centrepoint will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.

Claire, James, Carl & Bob
