Story
Now in it's third year, Surviving Winter is an annual campaign that raises money to help older and vulnerable people stay warm and well. Winter is a dangerous time for the UK's most vulnerable people, and it is estimated that there are over 100,000 households in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland live in fuel poverty.
Through Surviving Winter 2013, we encourage those that are in receipt of a winter fuel payment who do not need it, and members of the wider public, to donate to our campaign and help those who are suffering from fuel poverty in our local community.
If you don't need it, donate it!
Last year Surviving Winter raised over £20,000 to support local individuals like 94 year old Mrs R, who wishes to remain anonymous. Mrs R benefitted from Surviving Winter after receiving a recommendation from her friend when her boiler was condemned during a routine service. She was extremely concerned, with no heating or hot water in the home.
Through the intervention of the Community Foundation's Surviving Winter Campaign, Mrs R, was able to seek help via Age UK North Tyneside who helped give Mrs R the advice she needed to access the emergency funding, and fastrack service that she needed to survive winter.
