The apple of my eye ‘Lord Sidney’ and I are helping Greyfriars Rehabilitation raise money for their Barney Fund. The fund helps rescue dogs get specialist medical care, including hydrotherapy, so that they can be rehomed.
Sidney (now nearly 9 years old, oh how time flies) has suffered with hip problems since he was 18 months old and as a result has been swimming roughly on a weekly basis ever since. I have been going to Greyfriars for about 18 months now and everyone knows just how much Sidney loves it there by his pure uncontrollable excitement and whining from in the car about a mile down the road to the minute he arrives, he cannot wait to get into the pool. The staff are friendly and professional and have a real unique care and love for their four legged clients, you get the feeling that to them it is not just a job but a passion that is deep in their hearts ( sorry I digress).
So, the mighty Lord Sidney (aka Siddles, Sidarooska and Handsome) is going to be swimming the Channel. Well, not exactly, but he is going to be helping Greyfriars complete 3,380 lengths of their hydrotherapy pool, which is the equivalent distance of the Channel.
The Barney Fund was set up by Greyfriars in 2002 in memory of Barney who was found left tied to the gates of an RSPCA Centre when he was 8 weeks old. Barney was unable to walk and Greyfriars was asked to help with rehabilitation and hydrotherapy. Looking after Barney made them realise that there was a need for funding for dogs in trouble who required rehabilitation so they could be rehomed. Over the past 7 years many dogs, from all kinds of backgrounds, have been assisted by The Barney Fund. These include dogs from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, the RSPCA, the Dogs Trust, Vigil German Shepherd Rescue and Labrador Lifeline Trust. The Fund has paid for long term inpatient rehabilitation, MRI scans, x-rays, foster care, veterinary fees, ambulance transport and equipment for disabled dogs. The Barney fund is a fantastic, life-saving, charity. To find out more, please visit http://www.greyfriarsrehab.co.uk
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I understand in this economic climate money is tight, it is times like these when dogs like Barney rely even more on your generosity to survive as some owners simply don’t have the funds to pay for the treatments needed in order for their dog to live a happy and healthy life free from pain. Please sponsor us if you can.
Many thanks
