Oh boy, here we go again. Last year we cycled to the new Breast Cancer Haven in Leeds and back to hand deliver a welcome message from Hereford's Haven. Fully loaded the P.O. bikes weighed over 90lbs. It was a very hilly 335 miles and took a week. It then took over a week afterwards for our thighs to stop aching!
This year we thought we'd make it even more of a challenge so we're attempting to cycle on the same heavy bikes between all 3 Havens, Hereford - Leeds - London and back to Hereford, a round (or should that be triangular?) trip of 525 miles, carrying messages from and for them all (hence the name chainmail). Again we're giving up a week of our holiday, carrying all our kit with us and paying all costs so that every penny donated goes to helping women and their families through a tough and frightening time.
When my mother died at just 38 (I was only 16 and now, at 52, am 14 years older than her) the NHS was great but there was no other support either for her or us as a family. Breast Cancer Havens offer expert support, information, counselling and therapies to work alongside and complement the NHS. This would have made such a difference to us back then but it's here now and offered for free to anyone affected by breast cancer. Please take a moment to view their web site at www.breastcancerhaven.org Actually, whilst there, if you put 'Glyn and Mike' in the search box you can see a few photo's of last year's ride.
More recently Glyn also lost his mum to cancer so we both feel very motivated to help make a difference. You can make a difference too by supporting us and Breast Cancer Havens with a donation. Any size of donation is deeply appreciated and will spur on our aching legs and backsides. We will write up a report of our experience on this site after the ride, 24th October-1st November, along with a thank you message.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Many thanks in anticipation of your generosity
Mike, Glyn, Breast Cancer Havens and all the women and their families you'll be helping.
