Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Backdrop on the situation:

                                      CYCLONE  NARGIS

3rd May 2008: Ferocious cyclone devastates Burma, a country already suffering from massive economic problems. The images are graphic - Bloated coprses strewn across the delta, 2.4 million persons severely affected by a storm which ranks as one of the world's deadliest storms.
2nd June 2008: No aid for more than a quarter of a million people affected by the cyclone - a month on. Internatinal aid and relief supplies are withdrawn after the Burmese regime rejects offers of help.
TODAY: Thousands of survivors are lacking shelter, drinking water, power and communications - pregnant mothers, children and the elderly are the most vulnerable. The UN believes it will need to import food aid to Burma for up to a year to feed survivors. If the death toll is confirmed, Nargis ranks as one of the world's deadliest storms.

We cannot sit by and allow this crisis marred by politicking and poverty pass us by. I am working with a group of friends to raise money for Burma doing what we know best - football. We are hosting a national football tournament in Stopsley, Luton on Sunday 31st August 2008 and inviting everyone to contribute to the cause. Inshallah this will be one of many projects to come.

Whats the challenge? 56 teams competing for 1 charity shield with awards for the winner, runner-up and trophy for the most charitable team. How do you sign up - just call 07904 848485 for more details. Submit a team even if you just play casually - remember its the charity that counts, not the winning.

What if you don't play football or cant make it? At the very least, you can:
 a) Make a donation below and encourage your friends and family to donate to the cause
 b) Pray for those who are struggling to survive in Burma
 c) Come on down and watch the nail-biting competition at PlayFootball.net on 31st August

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Ummah Welfare Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
