My story

Restoration of the Cricket Pavilions:

Sport, including cricket are important elements of the breadth of activities and opportunities on offer to CH pupils. As well as having produced some excellent cricketers and battling hard for great results, it is not the winning that matters so much but the sportsmanship, team working and learning of new skills that the experience provides.

Next Spring CH hope to restore and repair both the small and main cricket pavilions and needs to raise at least £55,000 to rewire, repair the windows and roofs, redecorate internally and upgrade the showers and kitchen facilities. We have already received gifts of £25,000 towards this target and the more we are able to raise the greater the facilities and improvements we can ensure for the pavilions.

Now over 100 years old these works are planned to retain the wonderful character of the buildings and their features. Improvements will enable CH to offer changing and refreshment facilities to welcome visiting teams and support Housey’s own teams.

As you may have read in Housey!, the commitment to providing a free or subsidised education to pupils, presents the School with some major financial challenges. The endowment only covers 70% of the running costs, with an additional requirement for £23million to restore and refurbish the site over the next 10 years. Christ’s Hospital is not a rich School and just as when it was established in 1552, it continues to be dependent upon the support of its donors.

In 1902 an appeal was launched for £1,000 and over 500 Old Blues raised the funds for the existing pavillions. Please donate at any level within your means and if you would like any further information, please contact:
