This December a group of Midwives and Doctors from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital are travelling to a rural part of Ethiopia to provide much needed training in emergency maternity care where 1 in 21 women die in pregnancy and childbirth.
The team led by Roger Marwood (Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist) consists of 3 midwives and 3 doctors. The midwifery team are Carmel McCullough, Ursula Harrisson and Monal Acharya and the doctors Natasha Mohammed and Ed MacLaren who are both registars at Chelsea and Westminster.
We would really appreciate your help to develop the Chelsea/Gimbie Emergency training link. We would love to raise as much money as possible so we can send the team to provide training and purchase baby and mother manikins which help train skilled birth attendants in essential life saving manoeuvres. The project will continue to strive for sustainability as 2 more local midwives will be trained to become instructors so that the education can continue when we leave. We have a vision where all women and their babies are able to access safe and appropriate childbirth services regardless of where they live. Your help and funding will be used to support our training in Gimbie and other resource poor locations.
No mother or baby should die in child birth - please help us make this a reality.
For more information go to www.momsappeal.org where you can find vidoes about the work in Gimbie.
