Case study: donations in action

Loki was only 6 months old when he was admitted to Ocean ward at the Children’s Hospital for Wales because he wasn't eating properly. After being assessed he was immediately transferred to the High Dependency Unit.

For 10 days Loki remained in the HDU under close observation by the specialist nursing team there.

In total Loki spent 9 weeks in hospital which was very difficult for his family as they lived over 2 hours away in Ceredigion. Having a child in hospital is stressful, but this is particularly so when living so far away and with 2 other children to look after at home. Kirsti and Stephen, Loki’s parents, received great support from all the staff at the hospital. Kirsti said; ‘The hospital couldn’t have done more, they were fantastic!’

Loki is now a happy and healthy 2 year old, making sure Phase Two has the most up-to-date equipment will mean that sick children have the best possible chance of making a full recovery like Loki.
