Update 5th October

The latest report is that they are just a few miles from Calais, weather has been bad today, so the 600+km drive from Strasbourg has been difficult. They will not find out the race result until they get on the ferry but are hoping to have done well, but even if they haven't won it has been fun and some chickens will be happy. I am sure we will be hearing tales of their adventure for sometime.

Update 3rd October

After some last minute repairs to the petrol tank and a few 'issues' with the satnav the boys set off for Dover on Wednesday afternoon. Thirty cars are competing in the event and they all set off from Calais on Thursday morning after getting up at 4am to catch the ferry.  Reports back so far suggest all is going well and they are enjoying the trip. To date they have driven trough France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and Poland. The end of day 1 was at a campsite just out of Hannover. On day 2 they were pleased that the took an alternative road due to an accident reported on the original route. So they over took quite a few of the other crews on the way to Wroclaw. Today ( Saturday) is the shortest distance, but he slowest roads, heading SW to Prague, Czech Rep.

Update 25th Sept

Not long to go now, preparations are well underway, car is serviced, MOT'd, taxed and covered in chicken stickers.  We've practiced putting up the new tent and have most of our kit organised.  Just need to find the map now and we will be sorted.  We've seen that some of our 27 competitors are doing much better with their fund raising, so we have increased the target to try to catch them up.

We will be participating in the Screwball Rally in October 2009.

This is a five day endurance test driving around Europe visiting France, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Czech Republic. The event is about having fun, exploring different places and raising money for charity.

Our chosen charity is the Battery Hen Welfare Trust who rehome retired caged hens and work to raise awareness of Chicken Welfare.  The chicken's roaming the farm at Bisley Barns were rescued by BHWT. More information is available on their website.

To add some fun and to raise awareness of the charity, the car will be covered in pictures of the BHWT logo, each one representing a donation.  If you wish to have your name on a chicken sticker on the car please let us know.  Small chicken stickers are a donation of £5, large stickers are £10.  The extra large chicken on the bonnet will be £50.  Your donation will go direct to the charity.  Many Thanks to Rick Neale of Stroud Sign Centre for providing the chicken stickers.

Thank you for your donation and wish us luck for the rally.

Keith, Marcus and Paul
