Our trip to Uganda begins on January 7th 2010 and we are in the process of making sure our visit will be as worthwhile as possible.

We are working with a Christian organisation called Child of Hope who have a mission "to make a positive contribution and impact in building a sound, sober, healthy generation for tomorrow."

On our visit we aim to provide Child of Hope with a different dimension in a bid to help them work towards achieving their aim. The Children in Mbale (Uganda) are on holiday during the month of our visit, so we will be providing structured sports sessions which focus entirely on enjoyment and around the premise of good values in the hope that we can give them the best holiday they have ever had!

In order to do this we need some sports equipment.

Similar outreach coaching initiatives take with them footballs and other equipment which have been donated by some of the major football clubs in Britain. Such equipment will display the badge of the donating club.

The underlying structure of football in Uganda is at present in a diminishing state. This is in part due to the fact that the majority of Ugandan people support teams such as Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

As this is the case, we don't want take footballs or any other equipment that support the badge of a British football club.

Alive and Kicking present an excellent solution to our equipment needs! They are an organisation that employ otherwise unemployed locals to stitch footballs, netballs and volleyballs and then distribute to primary schools in Africa. Woven into these balls are messages which raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and Malaria. So not only is this organisation providing employment and sport, but they are also targeting the biggest killers in Africa. 

We want to take 20 footballs, 5 netballs, and 5 volleyballs to Uganda. At £10 each that gives us a target of £300.
