With the credit crunch affecting our funding and a much needed new Children’s Centre to be built, Gerry, our Director, along with our Refuge Manager, Jayne, decided drastic action was needed - So between the 10 and 18 of October 2009 both Gerry and Jayne will be facing an enormous personal challenge and undertaking to trek the Great Wall of China!
Stretching for 6,000kms, the Great Wall begins at Shanhaiguan and zigzags its way across ending at the in the . The Great Wall Challenge is a 9 day event exploring and trekking this man made wonder of the World.
Please dig deep and sponsor our Girls as every penny you give will be used by us to help to complete our new Children’s Centre. Once built, the Centre will provide a space for children and young people who are resident within our safe-houses to call their own. The centre will play host to a range of targeted children’s activities. These will all be aimed at helping to improve the mental and physical health and well-being of children and young people who have seen their lives torn apart by domestic violence.
To date we have secured £30,000 towards the Centre which means we can begin building it. However, we now must raise a further £25,000 to enable us to furnish it, buy the equipment needed to enable the activities to take place, and to decorate two specially adapted counselling rooms.
