The Challenge
This June, Steve Bownds and I will be running the “Chiltern Way”: a 172 mile footpath across the South-East of England, a feat which we are assured has never been done before...
The distance is the equivalent of seven marathons, or running from Central London to Sheffield…and we’re giving ourselves just 5 days to complete it. That works out at 34 miles of running each day.
The Route
The Chiltern Society mapped out this scenic route through the Chiltern Hills in the Year 2000 as a millennium project. It passes through the beautiful countryside of four different counties, over a great variety of terrains, but a running theme across the entire route is the hills!
We will start the run on Tuesday 21st June 2011, and finish (hopefully!) on Saturday 25th
The Fundraising
We will be enduring this gruelling route all to raise money for our chosen charities. I will be runnning for KIN (Kibera in Need).
Situated near Nairobi in Kenya, the Kibera is one of the world’s largest and poorest slums, home to over 800,000 people in an area of 2.5 sq. km. Some 20% of children die before their fifth birthday and close to 60% of people living in the Kibera have HIV/AIDS. This year’s Comic Relief drew attention to the hardship endured in this slum, but help is needed all year round. KIN provides a lifeline for children and adults living in the Kibera slum by providing money for education, vaccinations and food for children, and by providing financial support for adults trying to establish local businesses.
Your donations will make a massive difference to the charity, and will keep me going through this challenge, so please sponsor now!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: KIN gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thanks for your support!
