We support local partners around the world to combat avoidable blindness.

Story

This July, a team from ALM Media, which publishes The American Lawyer and The Am Law Daily, will be participating in the Olympic-distance team event at the London Triathlon, comprising a 1.5km open-water swim, a 40km bike leg, and a 10km run.

The team members are:

Jeremy Hodges - swim

Chris Johnson - bike

Anastasia Hancock - run

We are raising money for Sightsavers--a British charity that works to eliminate avoidable blindness in Africa and other developing countries. It helps restore sight through specialist treatment and eye care, and also supports people who are irreversibly blind by providing education, counselling and training.

In 2011 alone, Sightsavers and its partners carried out:

  • Over 31 million treatments to prevent or cure blindness
  • 251,048 sight-restoring cataract operations
  • Training 134,413 people to deliver primary eye care to diagnose and treat eye problems
  • Administering over 79.5 million treatments to protect against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)

For those of you that haven't used JustGiving before, it's really simple, fast and totally secure. The money is passed directly to the charity, and the site will automatically claim Gift Aid for donations made by eligible U.K. taxpayers.

U.K. residents can even donate by phone: Just text ALAW73, followed by the amount you would like to donate, to 70070. 'ALAW73 £10', for example. This SMS service is free to both you and the charity.

It's a great cause, so please dig deep and donate now.
