Story

Many of you will be aware that I recently took up boxing with the view to entering a charity bout. For those of you unaware this is how the story goes…Last year my father in law was diagnosed with cancer. Over the course of 2013 he underwent an intensive programme of treatment which was very aggressive and debilitating. Whilst at the time this was a very challenging  period for him and his family, I was inspired by his courage and fighting spirit to not be beaten. I decided that if he could fight so hard to beat this horrible disease then as a show of support I would also fight but in a slightly different way.

My bout is to raise awareness and money for two fantastic charities, The Macmillan Cancer Support Foundation http://www.macmillan.org.uk and Help For Heroes  http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk .

Over the past 6 months, I have been learning the art of pugilism, training hard putting in a lot of hours in the gym, sparring & taking a number of injuries along the way which I am sure Anji has heard enough about to last her a lifetime. The time for learning is over and I now have a date booked for my own fight.

On Friday 30th May I will take on an as yet unknown opponent over 3 rounds at the The Barnhill Community Centre in Hayes, Middlesex. Having played rugby all my life, I am used to facing up to physical challenges but I have to say this one  has me genuinely feeling very apprehensive and nervous already!

I know that many people request for sponsorship and you may often donate to your own chosen charities, but if you can sponsor me then it would mean a great deal if you can show your support to these great charities and if you want to go as far as to book a ticket to come and spur me on then please let me know. I don’t know ticket prices yet but whatever the cost I am sure you would be willing to pay it to see me get punched in the face!!

I am aiming to raise £5,000 for my chosen charities so please give what you can.

Thanks in advance for your support and I hope to see you there on the 30th May.

Chris
