Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. In Nov 2008, I am taking a trip to Kampala & Jinja in for two weeks as a volunteer cricket coach, to help train cricket coaches and teach cricket to children and adults, while incorporating a valuable HIV awareness message into the coaching. As part of a team of five people, I will be staying about two hours drive from Kampala and building on the work of previous visits to the region by the Cricket Without Boundaries charity. This will deliver cricket education, schools coaching and then a Kwik Cricket tournament. This fortnight is expected to be a tremendous opportunity for helping kids learn to play a team sport like cricket as in this locality the vast majority of underprivileged children have never had any sporting experience. I'm hoping you can sponsor me as I aim to raise £1,000 for the charity, to include equipment and accommodation costs for the trip (I pay for my own flight). To this end, I'm running 10,000 metres through Sheffield city centre on 7th September with a couple of work colleagues, and I will be arranging a fundraising cricket match somewhere in Oxford, news of which to follow. So keep an eye out for future events and please sponsor generously! Thank you for your support. Chris More about the charity: - Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB) is a UK charity set up to encourage the spread and growth of cricket and to link the sport to AIDS awareness. Since 2005, CWB has reached over 4000 children in Africa. We incorporate AIDS awareness into our coaching. However, awareness is not just about prevention, it is also about inclusion; a child with HIV is no different to any other. Sport, in particular cricket, helps break down the stigma of the disease and allows children of all races and sexes to play together as friends. CWB’s model aims at sustainability; we have trained 420 adults as cricket coaches, leaving them with an internationally-recognised qualification and the equipment to continue to train their community. What does CWB use its money for? Our biggest expense is equipment and associated transportation. Our administration costs are very low so almost every penny we raise goes towards funding projects. We are currently working on projects in Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda. Please see www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com for full details. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Cricket Without Boundaries Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
