My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

In August 2009 I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with a team from the University of Aberdeen in order to raise funds for Childreach International. Childreach International is a pioneering London-based charity that supports child-centred community development in East Africa and Southern Asia. Childreach uses a combination of innovative locally led projects and a unique direct action approach to fundraising to ensure long term change to the lives of the most vulnerable children and families. Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. It stands at 5,895 meters (19,340 feet) above sea level. By hiking along the Machame route, we will reach the summit in six days. Along the way we will pass through a variety of ecosystems and will be employing low impact camp setups throughout the climb.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ChildReach International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. You do not have to live in the United Kingdom to donate. Donations from anywhere in the world are accepted as long as you are using a credit/debit card. You can only donate in British Pound Sterling, but your credit card company will automatically convert the amount to dollars. In order to project this amount properly, you can use a currency exchange website such as http://www.xe.com/ucc. Please be aware that your bank may charge a small international fee for the transaction.
