Like so many people I've been increadibly fortunate to enjoy a great life without any real hardship or serious illness. As you'll appreciate this is something we all too often take for granted. However I’ve recently had the great privilege of seeing the fantastic work that the Rainbow Trust do at first hand and felt so moved that I have now agreed to accept a role on their Fund-raising Committee.
Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides practical and emotional support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. They support over 1,000 families every year and currently have two respite houses in Surrey and Northumberland that have been set up specifically to provide a break for the whole family, allowing them to spend precious time together as a family.
Rainbow Trust also has a nationwide team of Family Support Workers who join the family in their own home and are there to provide whatever practical support is needed. Whether it is attending hospital appointments with parents, sitting by the bedside of the sick child to give their parents a break or taking worried siblings out for the day, Rainbow Trust supports families for as long as they need it - from diagnosis, through the duration of the illness and beyond.
