Why your donation matters

Clean Break is a theatre and education company, using theatre for personal and political change, working with women whose lives have been affected by the criminal justice system. The women we work with have multiple needs and our specialist courses enable them to overcome barriers to learning and gain qualifications. Over 70% go onto further education, training, employment or volunteering and for every £1 invested in Clean Break, £4.57 is saved annually through reduced re-offending (New Philanthropy Capital, Unlocking Value, 2011).

"It’s opened up a whole new world to me, unlocked things about myself I didn’t know I had." Student, Performance Course 2011

"I’ve seen the impact of Clean Break’s work. It is an organisation that changes lives and changes minds." Harriet Walter, Patron

Case study: donations in action

Grace joined Clean Break after fifteen years of drug addiction, property offences and prostitution, she had lost contact with her son and family and struggled to stay clean from drugs. At Clean Break she built her confidence, completed several courses and gained qualifications. She has since secured a university place and performed alongside our productions at Soho Theatre and the Arcola. More importantly she has not relapsed and is once again in contact with her son and family.
