Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I'm part of a team of four who are taking part in the London 10k to raise money for the British Stammering Association (BSA) - www.stammering.org. I know it's not the marathon but I still hope you will give generously to this extremely worthy cause. As many of you are aware I have lived with a stammer for much of my life. The BSA have helped me to achieve easier speech by recommending speech therapists, courses to attend and books to read. My aim is to raise awareness of the much valued work undertaken by the BSA. Around 800,000 people in the UK are affected by stammering; every year 80,000 families in the UK will discover that their child has a stammer. Stammering usually occurs in early childhood between the ages of 2 and 4. If a child is not referred to a speech therapist at this time and provided with appropriate therapy, a chronic stammer can develop and the child is likely to encounter speech difficulties through their childhood and into adult life. Early intervention is vital and the money I raise will enable the BSA to continue to provide parents, whose child stammers, or anybody else concerned about stammering, with information and details of local speech therapy services. In addition adults will continue to be able to access information about the latest research into stammering, details of speech therapy courses, etc. Many thanks in anticipation of your support. Clive
