THANK YOU....

......for helping CODRA (UK) ship 2 ambulances and much needed medical supplies to Lukungu Health Centre and Nassa Hospital in the Magu District of the Mwanza Region, Tanzania.

The ambulances will provide medical care to people in the surrounding remote communities, where access to medical care is unaffordable, and often unreachable.

While the immediate population around the health centre and hospital is approximately 25,000, the ambulances will serve a wider area, including neighbouring Busega, which spreads over 2,000 sqkm and is home to 250,000 people. There is just one other ambulance in this area and the nearest main hospital is Buganda Hospital in Mwanza city centre over 100km away. It is here that patients with severe illnesses currently have to be transfered to.

The ambulances will also serve as mobile clinics to nearby remote villages. The clinics will provide basic medical facilities, to weigh babies and provide health education particularly relating to HIV/AIDS. The ambulances will help reduce the unacceptably high rate of infant and maternal mortality and provide follow up care.

In a similar project 2 years ago, CODRA (UK) sourced an ambulance for Mkula hospital from the Hampshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (http://www.codra.org/pages/news/ambulance_to_mkula.php). The vehicle was an invaluable asset, again used as a mobile clinic for doctors to travel to patients in neighbouring villages that would otherwise have been hard to reach.

CODRA (UK) now have 2 Fiat ambulances in our posession. Your donations will help us over the finishing line enabling us to source additional medical equipment (such as; wheelchairs, stretchers, defibrillators, stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors amongst others), which will be divided between the two centres, and to finally get these vehicles to where they are needed most.

A massive thank you from all at CODRA UK & CODRA Tanzania.  Your support is greatly appreciated.
