After relentless nagging by my friend Charlotte I finally took up running nearly three years ago. What started as regular short weekend runs seems to have escalated to the point where I am now in the Flora London Marathon on Sunday 26th April (number 25,601 in case you are watching!) Charlotte works at a local school called Riverside which I have chosen as my charity.
Riverside school is a special school for approx 160 pupils aged between 4 to 19 years in the London Borough of Bromley. All the pupils have severe or profound learning difficulties and some may also have physical disabilities or Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Riverside has a successful integration programme with local mainstream nurseries, schools and colleges. My son Sean's class at Tubbenden School are lucky enough to be involved in this programme and Sean has really enjoyed the experience as have his class mates and the Riverside pupils.
When I visited Riverside I was overwhelmed by the warm and caring attitude of the staff and the way in which the whole school community worked together to provide stimulating and enriching opportunities for all the pupils.
Riverside always need new equipment to cope with the huge range of difficulties and disabilites that the children have. By asking you for sponsorship I hope to be able to raise money to provide some new resources for the school.
This will probably be the only time that I will ask you for sponsorship so please dig deep to support my chosen charity.
Love Colette x
PS: Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Riverside School Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
