Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I am visiting Sierra Leone in April 2009 from 6th - 18th to visit the projects started in 2006 in the village of Kagboray, approximately 75 miles north east of Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone. Did you know that this country is ranked by the UN as the poorest nation - currently 176th out of 176?
Kagboray Primary School has been re-built with some SL government funds and some EU money but it only paid for the structure. Children First International (CFI)has paid for desks and benches to be made for the school so that the children can at least sit down. The trip in April is to get an update on what more is needed and hopefully fund the purchase of other items for the school.
The village has a Health Centre that has neither equipment nor medical supplies and I am taking with me as much as I can by way of bandages, dressings, etc., the kind of things I can get into a suitcase.
The cost of the trip is £1395 and I have paid for that out of my own resources. I am going with a group from Mission Direct, a charity based in Luton, that has a team on the ground in SL for 6 months a year. They will be my support team.
I am hoping to raise as much as I can to enable me to take funds with me to buy materials for the school. I have already collected 2 suitcases full of second-hand children's books and I have some new copies of Usbourne's children's dictionaries that I shall be taking with me.
Please sponsor me via the charity - these children have nothing but they are always smiling. Please help me to try and improve their lives, even if its by a small amount.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Children First International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
