Hello and thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Yes, yes, stop laughing. It's true, I've decide to have a crack at the London Marathon this April 26th. As many of you will know, I had a serious back injury a number of years ago and as a result had to give up my beloved rowing. I know first-hand how debilitating a back injury can be and how long and slow the recovery can be. Thankfully my back is now much better, so I've decided to to haul my running-unfriendly frame around London in the hope of helping those with much more serious injuries.

The charity I'll be running for is Aspire, who work to help people with spinal injuries regain as much of their independence as possible. They offer funding, advice and support, by providing grants to buy specialist equipment, by providing specially adapted temporary accommodation for recently-discharged hospital patients and by carrying out research into assistive technologies and fitness training at their Aspire National Training Centre and Aspire Centre for Disability Sciences.

In particular, Aspire offer practical support through Independent Living Advisors (all of whom have a spinal injury themselves) who work with patients giving information and advice on equipment and services available to greatly assist them living independent, fulfilled lives.

One of the projects they are piloting is FES Rowing, a programme investigating rowing as a viable form of regular full body exercise for a people with a spinal cord injury where their whole body is actively involved in the exercise, with all the associated potential health benefits.

All this work is funded entirely through charitable donations and project based funding.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ASPIRE gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

This cause is very close to my heart, so I ask you to spare a little, to help Aspire continue with their amazing and life-changing work. Thank you.
