We (Caro, Cheryl, Jill and Pip) are beginner canoeists and we are going to paddle from Devizes to Westminster over the Easter Bank Holiday. This race, the DW, is called the “Everest of Canoeing” – it’s long, hard and tough – 125 miles and 77 portages (lifting your canoe over the locks). It’s about 9 hours canoeing each day for three days and then 17 miles of the tidal section of the Thames on the fourth day.
We had never been in a canoe before September, we have trained about three times a week since then – we’ve broken the ice on the canal and waded through snow on the side the river. Please sponsor our attempt – rest assured we will never, ever do anything like this again.
Why Asthma UK?
In October 2009, Antonia Thomas, our friends' daughter, left us after suffering an asthma attack. She was just 10 years old. In memory of Antonia, we are trying to raise money and awareness for Asthma UK. You can look at Antonia's website on - http://www.antoniathomas.co.uk/
